Features:Gassan Sadakatsu (also known as Gassan Eitaro) was a master swordsmith representing the Taisho to early Showa eras.
Born in 1869 (Meiji 2), he was the son of the renowned Gassan Sadakazu.
While his father’s fame overshadowed him during his early years, Sadakatsu’s own skill blossomed after Sadakazu’s passing in the Taisho period.
He produced swords for the Imperial Household, Ise Shrine, and many other significant commissions.
His meticulous approach to swordsmithing reflected his belief in crafting swords with a pure heart in a sacred space, which led him to relocate his forge to Yoshinoyama in 1935.
He was known for his mastery of ayasugi-hada, as well as the Bizen, Soshu, and Yamato traditions.
This sword showcases his craftsmanship during the wartime period, with a beautifully preserved nakago and exceptional quality overall.
