Special feature: Oumi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro was a swordsmith from Hizen, the son of Tadayoshi 1st generation.Tadahiro was only 19 years old when his father passed away in 1632, but he was enough skillful to make sword at that time. Although he was called Tadahiro “the second”, he never assumed the name of Tadayoshi, but only used the name of Tadahiro.

Although he had a long life and produced a large number of works, there were some works produced by Tadahiro the 3rd generation from in his later years. His works are designated as “Oo Wazamono” because of their sharpness. He is said to be the best Hizen sword maker in terms of the beauty of the ground iron, and is highly regarded as a master craftsman second only to his father TadaYoshi.

From Aoi Art: The Omi Daijo Tadahiro is characterized by good shape, beautiful jigane with the Konuka Hada of the Hizen sword. The Hamon is middle thickness Suguha Hamon with deep Nioikuchi. He is a well known swordsmith to many sword lovers.
It is said that the sword given to Okada Izo by Ryoma Sakamoto during the Edo period was Oumi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro. Okada Izo was born into a family of Tosa Domain local Samurai at the end of the Edo period. He participated in the activities of the Tosa Kinno Party and is said to have assassinated a number of important Shogunate officials, earning him the nickname“Manslayer Izo“. Tadahiro produced a large number of pieces due to his long life, and all of them are well made. This Wakizashi shows Tadahiro’s characteristics well.It is a good piece of work.
